Could thieves be considerate please!

The word thief penetrates even through and beyond sacred books, sometimes I wonder, not that I question the authority of the Bible for instance, but it strikes my nerves why God had to use this word in the holy book. Furthermore, its attributes are likened to the coming back of the Messiah. And Jesus was crucified between two thieves.

No one would want to be associated by the circumstances that surround this league. Not even me!

I have been stolen from and I have heard people being stolen from. Not few times. No, severally. Allow me use two cases while in the university; a thief stole all my clothes from a line where I had hanged them to dry. How was I going to manage in campus without clothes? Over and above, a thief stole my laptop and two phones from the halls of residence. Honestly, taking all my data and documents!

Nonetheless, I have always held a firm stand and get irritated to see mob lynching unlucky thief or beating one to death. I always emphasize on forgiving them. To affirm this, even after being stolen from, there is a day I caught a thief red handed stealing clothes from a line. He had picked my white vest and a number of jeans from another line, though the jeans were not mine. He trembled with fear and asked me to forgive him. I did, because I knew if I could have shouted, “Thief!” “Thief!” The angry students would have stoned him to death, for there are many who always just want to get such a chance to avenge for their stolen items.

However, not anymore can I be empathetic. Not after what they did to my friend. Thieves must get what they deserve unless they will learn to be considerate. You ask me why? Well, even Jesus never condemned those who crucified the thieves; moreover, He only forgave the one who repented.

Can you imagine this scenario? Yannick, a friend of mine, is from Central African Republic-his nationality, he had preserved a period of stay in Tanzania and had been working there, and he comes to Nairobi-Kenya to pay his brother a visit, while in Nairobi a thief steals his bag, three phones, and a tablet. Mark you; the bag had traveling documents and the likes of ID, passport…and money. He has now to be deported back to his country because he cannot go back to TZ minus the named documents. How inconveniencing? How disorienting? How disorganizing? It is painful!

Please, can thieves be considerate in their ruthless dealings with innocent people. How do you do this to a visitor in the land? At least, take important documents like the IDs, passports and traveling documents to a place they can be traced back to the owner; that’s being considerate and responsible as a thief.

I’m disappointed; you have changed the name of Nairobi and placed it in the global map, known world over for this awkward act.

Next time if you get a thief, give them a serious beating, though one that doesn’t kill.

 I’m really pissed off!!!

Whether a robber or a thug; serious beatings will do. NKT!
